Stress and depression are emotional wellbeing issues that are very commonplace. One in four suffer with some form of mental health issue at some point in their lives. 70% of GP visits or hospital admissions is through stress related illness.

Don’t get me wrong, some stress is good for us. However, too much and we are headed for disaster. This can be in the form of numerous health issues and there will be issues around poor coping, poor decision making and bad lifestyle choices.

The hormones of stress are those of adrenaline and cortisol. A certain amount of stress hormones can be good for us. Stress is part of our survival mechanism, what is called ‘fight or flight’.

A high amount of stress however can lead to health complaints such as poor immune system, digestive issues, sleep problems, risk of heart disease, strokes and heart attack.

Depression can be a long term health complaint or it could be triggered by a significant life event for example death, job loss, end of a relationship, illness.

Depression effects how you think, feel and act. It can be highly debilitating.  Those suffering with depression can experience the following – lack of energy, lethargy, low mood, a feeling of hopelessness and poor self worth. Making day to day decisions can be a challenge. The good news is, it is treatable. Mindset techniques can be taught to enable huge shifts.
