NAILA DARR
My background covers both business and personal development. For 15 years, I successfully ran a Counselling practice simultaneously with a Recruitment Consultancy. I have always been passionate about personal development methods and have spent most of my adult life learning and applying them. My fascination with them meant I was always exploring why certain methods worked whilst others failed. I was also privileged to get feedback from clients about the methods, workshops and the experience of listening to world famous motivational speakers and learn what was working for them.

I noticed how easy it was to be seduced by the hype of certain methods and yet within a short space of time – the experience reduced to a distant memory and people going back to old habits. My other observation was how many of the New Age methods encouraged people to ‘by pass’ their true feelings and encourage false ‘positive’ beliefs that actually masked denial. This concerned and motivated me to find methods that were rooted in reality and had longevity.

Having spent years counselling others and being in therapy myself, I saw that it was helpful in gaining understanding and support. However, in my opinion, it also had its limitations. Namely, the fact it could take months/years, was expensive and often built unhealthy co-dependency on the Counsellor/Therapist. I noticed that over time, analysis often became the biggest defence against feeling and kept clients stuck from moving forward. Personally, I cannot see the value of understanding something if it does not free you of the control the underlying fear has on your life.

In 2002, I was lead to a book called Emotional Healing in Minutes by Val & Paul Lynch. The book was based on a self-help method called Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). This method changed my life. Initially, I questioned how such a simple method could cure phobias, traumas and patterns in such a short time. I compared it to counselling where the same issues could take months and even years to deal with. How could tapping on specific points on your body release fears without spending extensive time on in depth analysis of their root causes? It seemed too good to be true, and the sceptic in me searched for flaws, but instead I was blown away by the power and simplicity of EFT. As a result, I trained with the authors to become an EFT Practitioner.

By 2003, I was ‘burnt out’ from running two growing businesses on my own. My health was at an all time low, my energy depleted and I lost the joy for living. It forced me to look at the imbalances in my life and re-evaluate what was important to me. I decided to sell my recruitment business, which I had outgrown, and to stop working with clients using conventional counselling. My dream was to work with individuals personally, professionally and teach life transforming personal development courses – whilst leading a healthy, balanced life myself.

By 2004, I was free to do that. I spent time recovering and building my health, and trained as a Life Coach and Hypnotherapist. I wanted to provide a high standard of service, which enabled people to create change, balance and resourceful lives. I had personal experience of the methods, which had helped in my own spiritual journey and taken me beyond my challenges and expectations. This strengthened my commitment to support and enable others to live the lives they really wanted.
